This database is freely available to the general public via the Internet.

Description

ChemSpider is a free chemical structure database providing fast text and structure search access to over 57 million structures from hundreds of Internet data sources, providing the most comprehensive view of freely available chemical data from a single online search. Owned and curated by the Royal Society of Chemistry, it aggregates structures, spectra, properties, suppliers, syntheses, and other information into a single searchable repository with links back to the original sources. Data sources include PubMed, PubChem, NIST Chemistry WebBook, Google Books, and Google Patents.  ChemSpider SyntheticPages, CS|SP, extends this model to cover reactions, providing quick publication, peer review and semantic enhancement of repeatable reactions. API's are also available to enhance use of this resource.

Be sure to explore fully the options under each tab for a retrieved compound.  For example, under the Searcher tab, one can automatically execute a substructure search in Google. Under the More Tab are hidden a wealth of information:

  • Patents searches Google Patents
  • Crystal CIF retrieves standard crystal structure files
  • Pharma Links leads to drug information
  • Data Sources leads to all sorts of property information..
