Description

The National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) provides free, read-only access to codes and standards, including the National Fire Code (NFPA-1) and the National Electrical Code (NFPA-70). To access codes and standards for free, follow the steps below:

  • View the list of NFPA's codes and standards by clicking the link above.
  • Search for the code/standard # and select the "Read More" link.
  • Once on the specific page, use the drop-down menu to select the edition year, then "Select Edition".
  • Next, click on the "Free Access" button.
  • A new browser window will open displaying terms & conditions.
  • Review and accept the agreement terms to view the publication.
  • Use the "Table of Contents" or paging buttons to view chapters/sections.
  • Use the Zoom feature to increase/decrease the font size.

Please note:  You will be asked to "sign-in" or create a profile to access the code/standard in read-only format.

Dates Covered

Date coverage varies. The current versions of codes and standards are freely accessible. Older versions are available for purchase.

Print Counterpart

A few of these codes have been purchased in print over the years. Search the Library Catalog for print holdings.
