Working at multiple service points on multiple campuses is required. Working on the Delivery Services team means you could be potentially spending time in many areas of the libraries, depending on user needs. These areas include Annex operations, Delivery+, Front Line Services, Interlibrary Loan, Mail, Stacks Maintenance, and special projects as needed.

Annex Operations – activities at the Libraries Annex involve assisting with the transition of materials from one library to another, adding materials to the Annex inventory, opening mail for Delivery + and scanning articles for faculty, staff and students. The Libraries Annex is located about a quarter mile off campus at 3850 Rensch Road. Reliable/Personal transportation is required.

Delivery + and Interlibrary Loan functions involve navigating several databases, retrieving materials from the stacks, as well as scanning and editing journal articles and book chapters for faculty, staff and students of the University of Buffalo, as well as the academic community worldwide.

Multimedia Front Line Service Operations: Students will provide front line customer service involving technology, one-button studio, video editing stations, A/V equipment rentals, and room reservations.

Front Line Service Operations: In serving as a front line service student assistant, applicants must have the ability to provide a quality service to a large and diverse population of library users, have the ability to master complex database systems, answer basic informational, directional and library policy questions, help users locate materials and perform circulation transactions such as loaning/returning library materials.

Mail Operations: involves the opening and packaging of mail designated for Interlibrary Loan. It also includes receiving and returning materials in multiple databases quickly and efficiently to ensure service standards are met or exceeded.

Stacks Maintenance: involves the sorting and reshelving of library materials, moving collections throughout our facilities, shelf-reading, purging loose material and picking up unshelved books.

Some characteristics that are intrinsic to being a successful student assistant include:

·    Excellent customer service skills

·    Effective oral and written communication

·    Ability to master complex database systems

·    Willing to work at multiple service points at multiple locations
