Description
A component of the National Center for Biotechnology Information (NCBI), NCBI Gene is the worldwide repository of gene and pseudogene-specific data and information. NCBI Gene records all genes from completely sequenced genomes. It provides a one-stop interactive browsing resource for each gene from each organism maintained. Individual gene records are composed to match the current level and state of knowledge for any given gene. Typically hyperlinks to genomic, proteomic, and nucleotide sequences, chromosome location, homologs, exon/intron data, transcripts, clinical variations/mutations, conserved domains, microarray expression data, alternative transcripts, phenotypes, pharmacogenomics, pathways, protein interactions, and recommended worldwide third-party databases are provided.
Searching
Extensive search capabilities exist through the NCBI integrated 39 database Entrez text-based search engine, available for Gene at https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/gene/advanced. NCBI provides a Gene Quick Start Guide, a help document, query tips and general search options .
Dates Covered
Individual records are updated when new information is received. As a whole, Gene is updated daily and with every organismal genomic and SNP sequence rebuild.
