This guide describes how to search for newspaper articles in the University Libraries Everything search and the related Newspapers Search interface.

The University Libraries' newspaper databases include Factiva, Access World News/NewsBank, Buffalo News Collection, Gale OneFile News, Newspaper Source Plus, and Ethnic NewsWatch.

About Newspapers Search

The Newspapers Search interface provides access to millions of newspaper articles and news resources. It is separate from Everything Search to provide greater distinction between the scholarly resources highlighted in Everything and newspaper content to make it easier to focus a search in each.

Searching for Newspaper Articles

When you search in Everything, newspaper articles are not integrated within search results, but if if newspaper article results are available, you'll see a link to Newspapers Search displayed beneath the Content Types filter in the left navigation pane:

Selecting this "Newspapers Search" link will send your search terms to the Newspapers Search interface, and reveal available newspaper articles that match.

Step 1: search in Everything and select "Newspapers Search" below the Content Type filter:

Step 2: using the Newspapers Search link takes you to results within the Newspapers Search index, with extensive newspaper article coverage:

You can perform new searches for additional newspaper articles within this interface or click the link to go "Back to Library Search" to stop searching for Newspaper Articles and return to the scholarly Everything interface instead.  

You can go directly to the "Newspaper Search" interface by selecting the "Newspapers" tab in from the display above the search box, moving from Everything to Newspapers:

The "Newspapers" tab is also used to start a New Search when searching within the Newspapers Search interface; selecting the "New Search" link will return you to Everything.

By default, Newspapers Search will highlight articles that are available in full text online for the University Libraries.  You can view and request newspaper articles outside of our full text online subscriptions by selecting "Expand My Results" within Newspaper Search results:

Articles that are not immediately available with full text online will include the option to request via Delivery+.
