Focused Listing:

  • What criteria do you use for evaluating sources?
  • What are the sections of a scholarly article?
  • What are ways to limit your search in a library database?

Directions

  • Students list individually in 1 min all they know about a topic or question the Librarian gives them
  • Then get into groups of 3-4 and create a list of all their individual lists
  • Then get together as a class and come up with Master List
  • For additional fun, have them sort the Master List into categories (sort)

Think-Pair-Share (TPS)

  • Based on subject, who within this subject has authority?
  • You copy and paste something from a paper you wrote in another class for an assignment in this class, is this plagiarism? why or why not?
  • You are given a research question, how would you go through the research process?

Directions

  • Students should break into pairs
  • Ask students the TPS question
  • Have the pair of students think through the question for 5minutes
  • Have each pair, join with another pair and compare their answers
  • Groups share with the entire class and Librarian can facilitate
