Grove Music Online is the eighth edition of Grove’s Dictionary of Music and Musicians, and contains articles commissioned specifically for the site as well as articles from the 29-volume New Grove Dictionary of Music and Musicians, 2nd ed., Grove Opera, and Grove Jazz. Articles from the recently published second editions of The Grove Dictionary of American Music and The Grove Dictionary of Musical Instruments are gradually being put online, and new articles are added to GMO with each site update.

Articles are written by scholars with expertise in the area of the subject matter, and include bibliographies pointing to important works of scholarship on the topic. GMO is an excellent source for composers’ works lists. Multimedia content includes music score excerpts, images, and playable sound examples.
