Description

Oxford Scholarship Online (OSO) provides centralized access to e-books from Oxford University Press, one of the oldest and largest university presses in the world and widely-recognized as a top publisher of scholarly books.

Oxford e-books support student learning and faculty research across a wide array of subjects: biology, history, mathematics, philosophy, public health, business and management, law, music, physics, religion, classical studies, linguistics, political science, social work, economics, and finance, literature, psychology, and sociology.

Using Oxford eBooks: you can download book chapters as PDF files to print, e-mail and read them offline on your cell phone, tablet, e-reader, laptop, or desktop computer. Oxford e-books conform to WC3 Web Content Accessibility Guidelines.

Searching OSO: you can search the full-text of all e-books by title, author, subject, keyword, abstract, and publication date. You can limit your search results to those e-books to which the UB Libraries provides full-text access by clicking on “Full Text” under “Availability” in the left-hand column of the search results screen.

Where to Find Oxford e-Books: in addition to the OSO platform, you can access these e-books individually through the UB Libraries Catalog. Oxford e-books often show up in Google and Google Scholar as well.

Using Oxford e-Books as Course Materials: we encourage faculty to assign Oxford e-books as textbooks for their courses. There are no limits to the number of people that can use Oxford e-books. Links to e-books and e-book chapters can be embedded in UBLearns or other online course materials.

For more details, see Oxford’s list of Frequently Asked Questions.

Dates Covered

OSO includes nearly all Oxford University Press e-books published online from September, 2012 onward except for those found in Oxford Handbooks Online and Oxford Music Online. New e-books are uploaded to OSO in January, May, and September.

Print Counterpart

The UB Libraries own print versions of many Oxford University Press titles and there is some overlap with the e-books available on OSO. Use the UB Libraries Catalog to determine a book's availability in print (be sure to note the books status, location and call number).
