This guide was put together for students in SW245. Please use it to get acquainted with your research project where you will do research on a topic and create an Annotated Bibliography.

  1. The home page discusses that ins and outs of your assignment and provides some helpful links where you can begin your research. There is also a video that demonstrates how to find scholarly articles within the UB Libraries OneSearch function.
  2. The second page describes what an Annotated Bibliography is and how to successfully create one. There are also links to APA citation style guides.
  3. The third page details how to contact your liaison librarian.

Your Research Project

Part 1: Select a country to research - - - - 5 points

Pick a country you are interested in exploring.

Part 2: Complete an annotated bibliography and an outline - - - -10 points

After selecting a country, you will research key child advocacy issues in that nation. You must provide a list of at least eight (8) academic sources and provide a summary of the key points of that reference in the annotated bibliography. You will also submit an outline of for your final paper, covering all of the points listed in Part 3.
(Note: an academic source means information that comes from a book or a peer-reviewed/scholarly article.)

Part 3: Final Paper - - - -30 points

The final paper will use the references you listed in the annotated bibliography to address the following:

  • Identify key issues related to child well-being in the chosen country
  • Describe views and perspectives on child development and family in the chosen country
  • Identify the position of this country on the United National Declaration of Children's Rights
  • Describe the advocacy efforts related to child well-being issues in the chosen country
  • Other relevant health and welfare issues in the country, including considerations of social identities (including but not limited to factors like gender, race, religion, socio-economic status, sexual orientation, and political environment)
