Among the subjects covered are: art, archaeology, art history, architecture, city planning, crafts, folk art, textiles, graphic arts, industrial design, interior design, museum studies, landscape architecture, photography, television, video, and film. 

Leads to citations to articles from 1929-1984 published in international art and architecture periodicals, as well as yearbooks, museum bulletins, competition and award notices, exhibition listings, interviews, and book and exhibition reviews. Includes English language publications as well as publications in French and Italian. In addition to articles, Art Index Retrospective indexes reproductions of works of art that appeared in indexed periodicals. 

Users can search Art Index Retrospective simultaneously with Art Abstracts to retrieve additional citations from 1984 to present. To do this, click on "Open Database Selection Area" near the top of the search page, and check both databases. Then proceed with the search.
