Biomedical Engineering Research: Datasets

Last Updated: Apr 9, 2024 9:23 AM

Selected NIH Datasets & Data Repositories

  • CardioVascular Research Grid
The CardioVascular Research Grid (CVRG) project is creating an infrastructure for sharing cardiovascular data and data analysis tools. To access the datasets currently available, click here.

  • PhysioNet
PhysioNet offers free web access to large collections of recorded physiologic signals (PhysioBank) and related open-source software (PhysioToolkit).

  • Human Connectome Project
The Human Connectome Project is mapping human brain circuitry in 1200 healthy adults using cutting-edge methods of noninvasive neuroimaging. Imaging, behavioral data, and genomic data are all made freely available to the research community as the data is collected. In addition, other laboratories using similar data collection techniques are releasing their data via this web site.

Datasets Related to Healthcare

  • Healthcare Cost and Utilization Project (HCUPNet). U.S. Dept. of Health and Human Services
HCUPnet is a free, on-line query system based on data from the Healthcare Cost and Utilization Project (HCUP). It provides access to health statistics and information on hospital inpatient and emergency department utilization. Using HCUPnet's step-by-step query system, you can generate tables and graphs on national and regional statistics and trends for community hospitals in the U.S. In addition, community hospital data are available for those states that participate in HCUPnet.

  • Data, Tools, and Statistics, Health Services Research Information Central (HSRIC), U.S. National Library of Medicine
HSRIC is a research portal of health services research resources providing numerous Internet links to data, funding announcements, reports, podcasts, discussion groups, and more. It is not an index of all health services resources on the Web. Rather, it contains selective links representing a sample of available information. Items are selected for their quality, authority of authorship, uniqueness, and appropriateness.

CDC Data & Statistics

  • National Center for Health Statistics
Maintained by the Centers for Disease Control & Prevention (CDC), provides access to data sets, statistics, surveys, and publications.

  • CDC Data Sets and Statistics
This is the major link to data and statistics on CDC's website. It is arranged by Topic and by Tools & Resources.

  • CDC FastStats
Quick access to data from the National Center for Health Statistics organized by topics, which include diseases and conditions, injuries, life stages and populations, health care and insurance, births, and deaths.
