Women and Music: Web Resources
Databases
- Institute for Composer IdentityICD works in three main areas: databases, analysis, and action. Our databases encourage the musical community to discover works by composers from historically excluded groups. Our analytical studies show where diverse programming is occurring and where it is needed. Finally, we provide straightforward and effective ideas for more diverse and inclusive repertoire decisions.
- Donne, Women in MusicDonne, Women in music is a charitable foundation that celebrates, advances and amplifies women in music. We are dedicated to achieving gender equality in the music industry. We are here to connect and empower anyone who identifies as a woman in order to create a more equitable music industry.
- Female Band Composers DatabaseA database by composer Jodie Blackshaw of band music written by female composers. Currently, there is a focus on works from Grades 1-4.
- Database of Classical Composers Who Also Happen to be WomenNot merely recovering and revalidating missing heroines of the past but shifting a paradigm. About this list: This is by no means the ultimate database of women composers, or better still, of composers who also happen to be women. In fact, this list represents only a fraction of more than 6000 composers about whom a record exists (Aaron Cohen's Encyclopedia of Women Composers lists 6,196 women composers). Only composers of classical music, whose works have been released by a commercial label or published in print (preferably by a commercial publisher) are included in this database; however, exceptions will be considered for the more notable historical female composers whose works have been made available on YouTube or similar platforms in a high quality performance and recording.
- List of American Female Choral ComposersA list (incomplete) of American female composers with birth and death dates.
- Database of Woman Composers of New MusicThis is a database of women composers who specialize in electroacoustic music, experimental music and sound art, music for the screen or stage, or jazz music. They are listed with their country of residence. Many composers are now listed on wikipedia or their information can be found online.

Our publishing mission reaches to all centuries including the present day and extends to a wide range of musical forms and genres.
- The Art Song ProjectListen free-of-charge to a growing collection of rare and delightful art songs. Each composition has been lovingly resurrected from the depths of art song history, with most of them from previously unknown composers. The songs are performed in one take to give them a ‘live’ feeling—by soprano Hélène Lindqvist and pianist Philipp Vogler.
- Music by Women“We strive to elevate women composers and theorists by advocating for the study and performance of their works and providing high-quality easily-accessible resources that bring light to the often overshadowed contributions of women in music.”

The catalog includes solo and chamber music with horn (original works, up to 12 instruments) by women composers from around the world. Almost 2,200 pieces are listed and the catalog is continuing to be updated. This project was created by Lin Foulk Baird, horn teacher and performer.
- A Great Host of ComposersThis curated database of sacred music compiles choral music and voluntaries by women composers for the church year, with listings for each Sunday and feast days. There are also sheets with listings of Mass Settings, Evening Canticles, Responses, and Anglican Chant by women composers.
- Rebalancing the Music CanonThe index is under development and additional composers and works will be added. Details about this project are available on this page.
