SciELO indexes over 1,249 research journals from Latin America, Spain, Portugal, the Caribbean and South Africa. All disciplines are represented. The full-text of nearly all articles is freely available (open access). Both citing and cited papers can be searched based on a database of over 570,000 articles and 13 million cited references.

Approximately 45% of the articles are in English, 28% in Spanish, and 27% in Portuguese.

As a component database on the Web of Science platform, SciELO can searched simultaneously along with all other databases on that platform by choosing the “All Databases” from a drop down menu on the search screen.

Supported by the São Paulo Research Foundation, (FAPESP), since its inception in 1998, SciELO (Scientific Electronic Library Online) is facilitate publication of open access journals on the Internet, one of the earliest such initiatives. However, UB-affiliated persons should take advantage of our subscription version in order to take advantage of the powerful search system including the ability to search across all databases on the Web of Science platform.
