The UB Community of Practice in AR/VR/MR is sponsored by The University Libraries to explore and discuss the use of immersive environments in education.

This community will provide an opportunity for staff and faculty at all levels of experience and interest to come together and share ideas, network with colleagues, meet with vendors, and look at the possibilities of shaping the use and support of augmented, virtual and mixed realities at UB.

The purpose of the Immersive Experience Group (IEG) is to explore opportunities resulting in proficient users and providers of augmented, virtual, and mixed realities under the umbrella of eXtended reality (AR/VR/MR/XR) to support teaching and learning at UB. The Immersive Experiences Group will:

  •  Conduct environmental scans to analyze what other higher education institutions are currently undertaking as well as their future goals regarding immersive technologies.
  • Oversee and participate in projects to enhance access and visibility of the Libraries’ collections through immersive technologies.
  • Create unequivocal arguments to increase Libraries’ funding around immersive technologies related hardware, software, and spaces.
