How to Register for a SciFinder-n Account
New Users must set up an account. This is not optional. Instructions are below for registering both off-campus and on-campus.
OFF-CAMPUS REGISTRATION
To access the registration site, you must be a current authorized UB faculty, student or staff member and have a UBIT name and password.
YOU MAY RECEIVE AN ERROR MESSAGE AT THIS STEP! Here is how to resolve the error:
- Go to the UB Libraries page "Off-Campus Access for Library Resources"
- Scroll down to the section titled "Proxy Marker Bookmarklet" and follow the instructions for your browser.
- Try to access the SciFinder-n Registration Site again. When you receive the error, click your new bookmarklet.
- You should now be on the registration page.

Step 2- Create Your Account.
Once you're at the UB/CAS SciFinder-n Registration Site, register your name, address, UB e-mail account (@buffalo.edu). You will be asked to create your own user name and password that is separate from your UBIT name and password (although you may choose to use your UBIT name and password). Your user name and password must be kept confidential and not shared with any other person, UB-affiliated or not.
Step 3- Search in SciFinder-n.
