Description

Drug information monographs, including Rx, OTC, investigational, herbal and nutritional,  are retrieved by full or partial generic or product name as well as the ability to use a phonetic spelling if the drug is not found.  If there is a separate pediatric monograph, it will display in a second tab next to All Populations.  Drug related information includes conditions, manufacturers, drug class overviews, indications, contraindications/precautions, and interactions.  Drugs may also be identified by imprint, color and shape.  Predefined and custom product comparison reports include ingredients, strengths and other information for both common Rx and OTC products.

Users can move into specific resources and comparison tools to quickly retrieve more granular information, or use the convenient dropg down “Find by…” next to the search box.   Particularly useful is the “Find Drugs by Classification” feature which links to detail pages, and allows expansion and collapse of hierarchies.

Reports include Drug Interaction, IV Compatibility, Product Comparison, Adverse Reaction (with group reports sorted either alphabetically or by frequency), and Clinical Comparison.  The resource also provides extremely useful lists of Confused Drug Names, Do Not Crush, Not Recommended for Splitting, Beers Drug List, Interactions with Grapefruit Juice, Combo Chemotherapy Regimens, Products with Medication Guides, Narrow Therapeutic Index Drugs, Products with REMS, Package Requires Dilution, Boxed Warning Monographs, Acute High Alert ISMP, Community/Ambulatory High Alert ISMP, and Products by Manufacturer.

Of particular use for point-of-care are over 300 calculators, medical formulas, clinical criteria sets and decision tree analysis tools.   The indications/dosage and calculator also appears in each drug monograph screen the the left of the printer icon.   Custom drug interactions reports allow adding lifestyle interactions to individualize prescriptions.

Resources include the full text Harriet Lane Handbook to help pediatricians provide current care, a link to ToxED, and Vaccine Information Statements.

Each drug monograph has printable Med Counselor and Disease Information sheets.  The Patient Education Section is searchable by keyword or from “Find by…”, producing patient information sheets in English and Spanish.  Some monographs are in easy-to-read format.
