Homecoming: Home

Last Updated: Feb 19, 2024 12:05 PM

Homecoming is a celebration that welcomes UB alumni back to their alma mater and often marks the return of the football team from a series of away games.  The earliest mention of a UB Homecoming game in the University Archives' records can be found in the student newspaper The Bee in an article in the November 1, 1923 issue with headline Alumni Planning to Attend Home Coming Game this Saturday.  The following week's issue reports that the game against Hamilton College was hard fought and that "some portions of the game playing developed into furious free-for-all fighting, in which rough playing and fisticuffing took place."  3,000 students and alumni watched UB beat Hamilton 7-6.

This site serves as a guide to the history of Homecoming at UB.  Its photos, film footage and facts about UB Homecoming were gathered from the University Archives' collections of yearbooks and student newspapers, as well as our photograph, film and athletics history collections.
