The best database to use for this assignment is the Business Source Complete database; this database provides full-text access to more than 4,000 business periodicals, including journals, magazines, and newsletters.  Here you can also find current and past issues of popular magazines such as Forbes, Entrepreneur, Fortune, Inc., and more!

In Business Source Complete, you can use the keywords and phrases: social responsibility of business, corporate social responsibility, social innovation, and/or sustainability to find articles with discussing the topic of corporate social responsibility and sustainability. Subject headings can help you more precisely search for articles in databases; they’re similar to hashtags when searching social media.

To find articles that deal with individual companies and social responsibility, you will need to search for the words Inc or Corp in the Company Entity field.

Steps in running the topic of your search in Business Source Complete:

1. Connect to the Business Source Complete database

   • If you are having trouble accessing Business Source Complete, two good first steps are to switch to a new browser and/or clear your internet cookies. This tends to resolve a number of connection issues.

   • Make sure you access Business Source Complete through the UB Library link provided. If you try to go to BSC via Google, you will likely get a login error.

2. In the first search box type in one of the keywords above. (e.g. corporate social responsibility)

3. In the second search box, type in: INC or CORP

   (Change the pulldown option to CO Company Entity)​

4. In the “Limit your results” section, under Published Date, have a beginning year 2019 and the ending year 2023. 

5. In the “Limit your results” section, under Number of Pages, change to Greater than 2

   (this should reduce the number of very short articles)

    

*Tip*

If you are having trouble finding an article discussing a specific corporation or entity, try limiting your search results to magazines and trade journals.

Select the article of your choosing. In the main entry page of the article, find the toolbar on the right-hand side. 

Click the last link labeled Permalink. This will bring up a box at the top of the article page with the link to include in your assignment.

Do not simply copy the URL displayed in the browser.
