A guide to selecting and using streaming video and audio resources available through the University at Buffalo Libraries.

The chart below provides general information that may help with connection problems for library databases. Many common questions regarding using UB teaching tools and platforms like Zoom can be accessed through UB's Teach Anywhere webpage. Always check to be certain that you are using the most up-to-date version of your browser.

Counseling and Therapy in Video Search within current channel, all channels or all videos by keyword or subject.  Yes, closed captioning provided Yes, transcripts included

DRAM (Database of Recorded American Music) Current search engine works best with simple keyword searches, avoid using particles (the, and, or, etc.) in your search and try fewer search terms if you experience problems. No closed captioning as they are audio tracks No transcripts as they are audio tracks Recommended to use Firefox, Chrome, or IE (versions 10 or 11). Do not use IE versions (8 or 9) or Safari. Also, good results with Shockwave Flash version 12.0.0.70.
Electronic Arts Intermix (EAI) Titles must be searched through EAI. Advanced search option provided to search by educational streaming. Indexed by Artist Name.     Quality varies from title to title. 
GREENR (Global Reference on the Environment, Energy, and Natural Resources)     Varies for content from 3rd parties   
Henry Stewart Talks Search for talks or browse by subject area. You can view search results for talks (the default), series, or experts. Use filters to refine the results. Yes, closed captioning Yes, transcripts More information available at Henry Stewart Talks site requirements page.
JoVE Unlimited Search for all of JoVE or browse by subject. There are "research" and "education" focused subject areas. Yes, closed captioning No, but an article is available with every video  
Kanopy Streaming Service All titles available for license can be searched from the Kanopy platform. All titles currently licensed by UB are also listed in the Libraries' catalog and everything search.     Old versions of Internet Explorer are not supported: Kanopy help page. Kanopy app is available for iOS and Android. 
NAXOS Music Library Options to search using keyword and advanced search by composer, arranger, performing group, artist, label, category, featured instrument, period, county and date. No closed captioning as they are audio tracks No transcripts as they are audio tracks

OnArchitecture Search database directly using keyword or advanced search options available. No closed captioning. Video-interviews are labeled if subtitles included. No transcripts.  
OntheBoards.tv Search by keyword or browse available works under the "films" tab. Click the VIEW button below the player to expand and find multimedia resources that relate to the performance. No closed captioning. No transcripts.

Pidgeon Digital Search database directly by subject, architect, location or building.  No closed captioning or subtitles. Transcripts available for many of the talks and lectures.

Rock's Backpages General search using keyword search. Advanced search by subject, genre, writer, publication, type of article and format. Supports phrase searching. Audio and text formats, no closed captioning. No transcripts. Supports latest versions of Chrome, Safari, Firefox and Internet Explorer.
Swank Digital Campus Titles can be searched from the Swank Platform in the Libraries' catalog or everything search. Yes. Access captions by clicking the three dot menu icon in the bottom, right corner of the play window and selecting English from the Subtitle (CC) menu.   Safari and Chrome supported for OS and Windows. Edge supported for Windows. Swank Media Player app is available or iOS or Android.
