Sanborn Fire Insurance Maps – Digital Maps for New York Digital Sanborn Maps (1867-1970) provides electronic access to more than 660,000 Sanborn fire insurance maps of more than 12,000 American towns and cities. The maps are valuable tools for urban specialists, social historians, architects, geographers, genealogists, local historians, planners, and environmentalists.

Buffalo Stories Collection
Every building has a story. The intriguing architecture of Western New York is celebrated through Building Stories, Buffalo Architecture Foundation’s multi-media project documenting and sharing profound individual experiences with architecture, construction, landscape and planning throughout the region. The Buffalo Architecture Foundation Building Stories Collection provides access to submissions from 2011 to the present.

The Darwin D. Martin Photograph Collection
The Darwin D. Martin Photograph Collection consists of 1167 images of Martin and the Martin family and their residences. The photographs date from Martin’s early childhood in the mid-19th century to the 1970s. In addition to providing a photographic record of Martin and his family, the collection provides a unique view of the construction and use of private residences designed by Frank Lloyd Wright for Martin—the Martin House Complex in Buffalo, consisting of the Darwin D. Martin House, the Barton House, and other structures, and Graycliff, the Martins’ summer residence in Derby, New York. Included in the collection are photographs of the Martin House Complex by Henry Fuermann of Chicago and photographs by Louise Mueller and other notable regional photographers.

Rudy Bruner Award Digital Archive
The Rudy Bruner Award Digital Archive (RBADA) provides access to award winning and fully documented urban design case studies. Intended as a resource for architecture students and practitioners as they study precedents in urban design, the Archive contains projects from 1987 to the present that have received the prestigious Rudy Bruner Award for Urban Excellence. The Bruner Awards seek to encourage and recognize innovative thinking and excellence in urban design achieved through community collaboration.

William S. Huff Photographs of the Work of Louis Kahn
This collection contains William S. Huff’s photographs of selected works of the American architect Louis I. Kahn (1901-1974). Among the projects featured in the collection are the Yale Art Gallery (1951), the First Unitarian Church of Rochester, New York (1959), and the Yale Center for British Art (1969).

Finding Aid for the Kerry S. Grant Pan American Exposition Collection, circa 1901
Printed matter and memorabilia relating to the Pan-American Exposition held at Buffalo, New York in 1901. The materials were collected by Kerry S. Grant and donated to the University Archives in 2004 and 2005. The collection includes programs, picture books, magazines, maps, and various ephemera.

Banham (Reyner) “Buffalo: The Industrial Heritage” Course Records, 1904-1986
Documents “Buffalo: The Industrial Heritage”, a summer course taught by Reyner Banham in 1977. Contents include contemporary and historic photographs of Buffalo’s industrial buildings (including the Larkin Complex) and field notes.

Buffalo and Western New York Building Codes and Zoning Ordinances Collection, 1953-1994
A collection of building and housing codes and zoning ordinances for the city of Buffalo, N.Y., the town of Amherst, N.Y., and Erie County, N.Y. Documents cover the period 1936-1986. Also includes some similar documents for other municipalities in Western New York.

Hayes Hall Historic District architectural plans and drawings, 1856-1989
Copies on mylar of architectural plans, drawings, photographs and site plans of the Hayes Hall Historic District on the South Campus of the State University of New York at Buffalo. The plans, drawings and photographs were used in the book Hayes Historic District, found in both the University Archives and Architecture and Planning Library under the call number NA108.B8 H388 1989.

Frank Lloyd Wright

Wright (Frank Lloyd) Correspondence with Michael Meredith Hare, 1933
Correspondence between Michael Meredith Hare, architect, philosopher and author, Frank Lloyd Wright, and Taliesin Fellowship member, William Bye Fyfe, when Hare was an architecture student at Yale in 1933, concerning Hare’s inquiry into a Fellowship at Taliesin and Wright’s views on architectural education. Also includes a 1940 autobiographical sketch of Hare.

Collection contains architectural drawings from the Historic American Buildings Survey of the Darwin D. Martin House, Buffalo, New York, designed by Frank Lloyd Wright and built in 1904.

Architectural and landscape plans for the Darwin D. Martin House and Graycliff, the summer home of the Darwin D. Martin family which were designed by Frank Lloyd Wright. 

Polivka (J.J.) Papers, 1945-1959
Papers of J.J. Polivka, internationally renowned Czechoslovakian structural engineer. Collection documents his collaboration with Frank Lloyd Wright on many of Wright’s later projects including the Guggenheim Museum. Collection consists of correspondence, clippings, photographs and photograph negatives.

Collection includes local government consolidation proposals and Planning materials regarding Niagara County, New York in the 1960s and plans for developing the waterfront in Buffalo, New York in 1939.
