New York State Depository Program

Lockwood Library was designed a New York State Class D depository making Lockwood eligible to  receive publications distributed by the New York State Library in any format.  As the electronic availability of government information has expanded, the receipt of paper products from the New York State Library has rapidly decreased.  Selection of  publications is done through the use of the electronic version of Checklist of Official Publications of the State of New York . New York State documents are acquired based on patron request, media references and through individual agency mailing lists for items of a serial nature.    The Law Library collects statutes, cases, regulations, and administrative decisions.  Lockwood Library selects materials pertaining to policy issues and statistics relating to the law.  When appropriate, each library makes exceptions to these guidelines.

Primary subject areas of interest:

  • Policy and legislative issues
  • Political science and other social sciences
  • Statistics·Most scientific and technical reports published by New York State agencies that deal with energy, the environment and transportation

Locating Print Documents in Lockwood Library

Most New York State publications are listed in the Libraries Catalog. One way to limit search results to New York State publications is by including Albany in a keyword search; for example: education and albany.

Printed documents are organized by New York State document classification numbers. All serials, including journals, magazines, annual reports, and other reoccurring publications, are cataloged. All monographs from 1993 to date are cataloged. Cataloging for earlier titles is selective.

Lockwood Library has Microfiche documents covering May 1983-1995. Organization is by New York State document classification numbers. All titles are listed in the Libraries catalog. Microfilm copies covering September 1974-April 1983 are also in Lockwood Library at MicFilm J87.N74.
