Lieder and art song resource guide: Audio and video
Audio and Video
The music library has an extensive collection of LPs, CDs, and videos. These can be found by searching the catalog for composer, title, or performer, and selecting audio music from the drop-down menu for Type. If you need help locating a recording please ask for assistance. Do not be intimidated by the number of recordings in LP format! The library has record players and headphones available to listen in the library, and assistance is available in operating the equipment. Audiovisual materials and headphones must be requested at the circulation desk.
In addition to the large number of audio materials at the library, there are also some video recordings of art song performances. A few from the collection are:
- One Night, One Life: Dichterliebe. Christine Schäfer, soprano; Natascha Osterkorn, piano. Performing Robert Schumann, Dichterliebe.
- Thomas Hampson from the Théâtre musical de Paris, Châtelet. Thomas Hampson, baritone; Wolfram Rieger, piano. Performing Mahler, selections from Des Knaben Wunderhorn.
- Elisabeth Schwarzkopf; Irmgard Seefried, sopranos; Dietrich Fischer-Dieskau, baritone. Performing works by R. Strauss, Mahler, and Schubert.
- Winterrise. Thomas Quasthoff, baritone; Daniel Barenboim, piano. Performing Franz Schubert, Winterreise.
The UB Libraries subscribe to two streaming music databases, DRAM and NAXOS and to several streaming video and sound recording platforms. We ask that when you are done with NAXOS, please log out or close your mobile app to free up space for another listener.
