Collection Development

 

 Materials that would be welcomed in the collection:

  • Collections or items that are related to the collection parameters but not currently available in the History of Medicine Collection or the wider UB Libraries collections. 

  • Books that cover the history of the health sciences and books on topics of health science published before 1940.

  • Items to replace items in the collection that are in poor condition or missing.

  • Non-book items such as medical instruments, personal papers, manuscripts, or photographs.

  • Books or items that are significant to the history of the local area and the University at Buffalo’s School of Medicine.

 

We are not accepting the following:

  • Books or items already in the collection.

  • Offprints or reprints of journal articles.

  • Items in poor condition: Books with missing/broken spine, books missing pages, items that crumble easily, Items with mold, and items with significant water damage.

  • Items that cannot be stored safely in the collection (i.e. oxygen tanks)

  • Media in formats that are unavailable to the collection or antiquated: VHS, CDs, cassette tapes, etc.
