How Do I Request an Item that Isn't Available at UB?

Look at the Requests/Delivery tab in this guide. Finding an item through OneSearch is the easiest way to send a request. You may also access your library account to manually enter the information of the item you need. Ask a Librarian for more assistance.

How Can I Email and Export Records?

You can Email and Export records individually or in batches. Please see the methods below.

Method 1 – Individual Records: Basic Email and Export options are available on the “Send to” menu that appears in individual records.

Method 2 – My Favorites: You can also use the “Push to” menu that appears by clicking the 3 dots in My Favorites, for acting on batches of records in search results.

For more information on saving your searches and accessing My Favorites, please see the OneSearch and Search Tips FAQs: “How Do I Save My Searches?” Once in the “Push to” menu of My Favorites, select the desired action, and follow the system prompts. When exporting to Excel, you’ll be prompted to select file type (Excel or CSV) and a download location.

Use the Email and Export options described above for batches of up to ~300 records in My Favorites.

Method 3 – Search Results: You can Email or Export batches from the gray menu above the search results list when you select one or more records.

By clicking the checkbox in the gray menu above the search results, the system will automatically select all the results on the first page, (shown in the screenshot above as “You have selected 10 records”). You can also choose to select one or more records from the results page. Once you have selected your records of choice, click the three dots along the right side of the gray menu to choose the export format.

You can also select “Choose Top 50 Results” from the gray menu and click on the three dots along the right side to export a batch of that size.

For a large batch export of 300 up to ~5,000 records at a time, select "Export Top ~5,000 Results" from the gray menu. You must be logged in to Export via this method.

You'll be prompted to select an Export Format (BibTeX, Excel, or EndNote desktop/Zotero); add your email and a batch of records in the format you selected will be sent to you as an email attachment. Please note that large files may take longer to process and deliver.

To review the different options:

1. The "Export Top ~5,000" link allows you to export very large batches of records from search results or My Favorites.

2. The Pin action allows you to save selected records to My Favorites.

3. The Push to/Send to action menu allows you to print, email, or export a single record or selected records from search results or My Favorites.

Where Can I See My Search History?

My Favorites, Saved Searches, and Search History are all found under the Pin icon.

Searches in your Search History can be re-run by clicking on them, and added to My Favorites or deleted via the pin and trash icons.

Can I Export the Citations of Items I Found into EndNote?

Yes. Under Send To in the item's record are options to generate a citation or export to a citation manager. Select your preferred option and follow the prompts as they appear.

Can I Search Using my Mobile Device?

Yes. The search interface is compatible with all mobile browsers. Please Report a Problem if OneSearch or other library pages won't work on your mobile device and the Libraries will investigate.

How Do I Use Browse?

Browse search, located under ... [More] options,  allows you to browse library material (UB Libraries catalog only) in order to find information of relevance quickly. You can browse material by several different fields. In the results, you can click an underlined entry to see its associated records. Clicking a title displays the full record.

As an alternative to Browse Search, you can search "Title starts with" or "Holding Call Number starts with" in Advanced Search:

Advanced Search "Starts with" can find materials beyond the UB Libraries Catalog, but can only be used with the Title and Holding Call Number field.

What is different in OneSearch than Everything Search?

You should be able to perform all the same searches in OneSearch as you could in Everything Search. We have simplified some of the search options and included access to more resources.  If you were accustomed to using a particular tab or scope in Everything Search that you don't see in OneSearch, check Searching Different Areas in OneSearch.

If you need to see saved records, searches or favorites from Everything Catalog or Everything Journals, you can login and retrieve them at these links:

Please be aware that these Everything links are outdated and will be removed -- all Catalog and Journals tab links must be revised to OneSearch!

Be sure that any records or searches you want to save are now in OneSearch!

If you have any problems with OneSearch or it doesn't provide the search capabilities you need, please Report a Problem so the Libraries can investigate solutions.

What Happened to the Journal A-Z List?

Although the old Journals search page no longer exists, you can still search and browse for journals.

Here is a quick search box where you can easily browse UB Libraries journals -- simply enter the initial letter, letters, word, or phrase where you'd like your list to begin.

Browse UB Libraries Journals by Title:

Everything > Journals search has been replaced by the "Journals" search filter in OneSearch. Simply start in OneSearch and select "Journals" beneath the search box:

Another option is to perform and Advanced Search by Material Type = Journals; with this type of search, you can search for any part of the title or other field:
