- National Map Map from USGS in collaboration with other government agencies.
- Color Landform Atlas of the United States Landform maps, with various characteristics; also satellite images of each state. Also provides links to other maps for each state, and for the entire country.
- Army Map Service 1:250,000 Scale Topographic Maps of the United States. UB has most of these maps in its collection, see the Libraries' Catalog for access. The link above is an index of all maps in the series. Click here for Alaska.
- National Park Maps (unofficial). A collection of approximately 1,750 free maps published by the National Park Service. Browse by state, park name, national monument or historic site.
- Boundaries of the United States and the Several States. Animated map of the country showing border changes by year. Very good for graphic depiction.
- United States Census Bureau. Provides access to census data and related materials, including glossaries, descriptions of data types, and other information.

- U.S. County Outline Maps (Perry-Castañeda Library Map Collection). U.S. Census outline maps.
- Library of Congress Geospatial Applications. Hub of ArcGIS apps developed by the Library of Congress on a variety of subjects largely focused on American history.
State Map Collections (Selected)
- Historical County Boundaries of United States. Includes GIS data files.
- Maryland Map Collection (University of Maryland). Comprehensive collection of more than 2,500 map titles depicting Maryland, the Chesapeake Bay, and the surrounding region. Selected maps have been digitized.
