Alumni FAQs
My graduation is upcoming, or it just happened. When does my remote access with my UBIT name and password expire?
You will lose access to your other UBIT services within six months after your degree conferral date. Please also visit the UBIT graduation page for more info.
Please Note: Keeping your UB email address after graduation is not the same thing as having an active UBIT name. A UB email address does not enable you to remotely access the UB Libraries' licensed resources.
Can alumni access the library's business research databases remotely/from outside the library?
I'm sorry, no. In their licensing contracts for universities, database vendors limit access to current students, faculty, and staff.
Why?
Most of the vendors also sell their content to companies and consultants, and want to preserve those lucrative markets.
What if I'm a Friend of the Library?
While Friends are able to check out books, they still can't access library databases from off campus. It's the same vendor restriction to current students, faculty, and staff. Sorry!
Can alumni access the library's business research databases from within the library?
Yes, for most databases. We provide guest computers for community researchers.
Is there alternative access for business databases?
Yes, NOVEL NY and the local public libraries. See the "New York State" and "Local Alumni" sections for more information.
