After joining the State University of New York in 1962, UB quickly outgrew its campus on Main Street. The temporary Ridge Lea Campus was occupied from 1967 through the early 1990s. It helped to alleviate UB's space shortage while construction on the new campus in Amherst progressed.

The game's halftime performance by the UB Marching Band "Give Peace a Chance" was blacked out by ABC for its "definite political implication." The game was also marked by a demonstration by students who marched around the outside of Rotary Field, protesting against war, racism and sexism.

Year in Review
(Image ID: RG9-9-00-3_22_7_1971_1)
On July 30, 1971, The Spectrum published a review of President Ketter's first year in office. In it, Ketter is lauded for his efforts in improving relations with the local community, and the "quiet advancement" and "consolidation" of the university. One faculty member is quoted saying that the year was "uneventful, cautious and damned dull." This drawing by The Spectrum's Tom Toles (BA '73) depicts President Ketter as a centaur.
