September 1, 1972 marked the 10th anniversary of UB merging with the State University of New York.  In that time UB grew from just over 7,000 students to 23,141 students.  Pictured at center is UB Chancellor Clifford C. Furnas at the merger ceremony,  With the merger, the title of UB's chief executive officer changed from Chancellor to President.

The International Fiesta took place on February 24, 1972.  It showcased songs, dances and other presentations by international UB students.  International Fiesta has become an annual tradition that still takes place today.

On May 6, 1973, an estimated 20,000 people visited UB for University Community Day.  The university's schools and departments planned over 100 attractions including a laser demonstration, a 500 pound concrete canoe and an outdoor symphony concert.  Over 1,300 people lined up for the shuttle to the new campus in Amherst and a tour of the newly completed O'Brian Hall.

For the first time in over 50 years, UB's schools held individual commencement ceremonies.  Taking place May 26-27, venues included Kleinhans Music Hall, Clark Gym and Rotary Field.  In this photo, School of Engineering students and faculty are assembled outside Parker Hall.
