In June 1971, the house at 186 LeBrun Road was purchased by UB for $125,000.00 (approximately $898,000.00 in 2022). It replaced the Darwin D. Martin House as the home of the president and would serve in this capacity until 1982.

Chabad House Dedication

On September 7, 1971 over 500 people attended the dedication of Chabad House at 3292 Main Street. "The Chabad House is designed to enlighten the Jewish college student on the true meaning of Torah Judaism in the modern world" The Spectrum, September 13, 1971, p.7.

Sit-In!

On September 15, 1971, in the wake of the Attica Prison Riot, 150 students staged a sit-in of Capen Hall (now Farber Hall), the home of the School of Medicine. One of their demands was for the School of Medicine to provide healthcare for the prison. At 12:35 a.m., the protesters received word that their demands had been met.

Appalachia Symposium

The symposium took place in and around Norton Union March 21-24, 1972.

Dick Gregory at Clark Gym

On March 16, 1972, Dick Gregory cut his speech short after ten minutes when members of the Black Student Union would not stop filming it. Gregory felt the filming would be a breach of the contract he had with a movie studio.

Commencement

On May 14, 1972, Commencement was held outdoors on Rotary Field for the third consecutive year. This would be the last year UB would hold one commencement ceremony for all graduates.
