This collection features over 20,000 drawings and maps, 3,000 district reports, photos, aerial photos and books about the Great Lakes.

The Buffalo Harbor Museum is "arm and inviting setting where displays and exhibits provide an overview of the evolution of the Buffalo Waterfront along with artifacts from the vessels that sailed the Great Lakes."

There is a research library on site.

The website includes old images, including aerials and photographs of lighthouses.

The Buffalo History Museum Library & Archives includes a number of primary and secondary resources related to the Great Lakes. Use their catalog FRANK to find materials.

The Erie Maritime Museum maintains a diverse collection of three-dimensional objects as well as archival materials. The Museum preserves Erie’s rich maritime heritage and reveals stories of those individuals who contributed to the growth of Erie from a frontier village to a dynamic Great Lakes port city.

"The Great Lakes Bulletin is a daily newspaper written by and for naval officers. This collection provides a record of official communication between naval officers at the United State Naval Training Station at Great Lakes, Illinois. Each issue featured official orders from the navy Commandant, events on base and news of ongoing military campaigns. The newspaper also featured a daily comic and extensive sports section. Advice columns were also tailored for naval life with titles such as "Things Every Sailor Should Know" and "Health Hints for Fighting Men". This newspaper is a good resource for naval historians, genealogists and anyone interested in military culture during wartime, especially during World War I."

The Great Lakes Research Consortium is an organization of 18 colleges and universities in New York, with nine affiliate campuses in Ontario, dedicated to collaborative research and education on the Great Lakes. We have nearly 400 member faculty, who are conducting research in every facet of Great Lakes science.

The GLRC is governed by a series of bylaws (PDF) with the Board of Governors and Campus Representatives selected from each of the member campuses.

Mission
Our mission is to improve the understanding of the Great Lakes ecosystem, including the physical, biological, and chemical processes that shape it, as well as the social and political forces that affect human impact on the lakes and their associated economic resources. We accomplish this through research, instruction, and public service.

The International Association for Great Lakes Research (IAGLR) is a scientific organization made up of researchers studying the Laurentian Great Lakes, other large lakes of the world, and their watersheds, as well as those with an interest in such research.

The Network brings federal and university partners together to support Great Lakes science and outreach.
