Delivery+ Support: Request a Book Chapter

Last Updated: Jul 18, 2024 11:26 AM

Page Limits

  • The Libraries must adhere to Copyright and Fair Use guidelines when providing scans.
  • It is best to ask for:
    • only one chapter per request
    • a maximum of 50 pages
  • Anything beyond these suggested limits may result in your request being converted to a physical item pick-up request.

Requesting Book Chapters

Placing your request: Using the Delivery+ service you may request book chapters. If UB owns the material, we will pull it from our shelves and scan the chapter. If we do not own the item, we will request it on your behalf from a partner institution. View the step-by-step instructions below for directions on how to request a book chapter via the library catalog or manually via your library account

Receiving your request: The scan will be delivered electronically as a PDF to your library account. You will then receive an email with a link to the PDF. The PDF will be saved on our servers for 30 days. During this time you can view, download, and save the chapter. After 30 days the link will become inactive and the request will be considered finished. If you did not save the chapter to your computer during this time you will need to place another request.

Step by Step Instructions

From the library homepage, search in the "Everything" search box. Hit Submit. If prompted, login to your library account with your UBIT name and password.

Identify the book you'd like in the search results by looking at the publication information found below the title. Click on the title. This will open the item's page.

If UB owns the book, you will see a section titled "Get It.". There are options for "Delivery+ Book/Media Request" and "Delivery+ Book Chapter Request." If you want a single chapter scanned and delivered electronically to you, select "Delivery+ Book Chapter Request."

Below the "Get It" section is the location(s) where the UB-owned copy can be found, and a status of whether it is available.

Clicking on the "Delivery+ Book Chapter Request" will open a chapter request form. The form will be pre-filled with information for the book's record page. You will need to fill in what chapter and/or pages you'd like scanned. Hit submit when finished.

When your request is successfully sent, you will be redirected to your library account's Article/Chapter Requests and Interlibrary Loans page. Here you can see the transaction number of your request and its status. When the request has finished processing, a PDF will be uploaded to this page. You will receive an email with a link to this page when your PDF is ready. For more information on viewing requests.

Some helpful hints:

  1. ISBN: always add an ISBN if possible. It will speed up the processing of your request and ensure you get the exact edition of the book you want.
  2. Accept Alternate Edition: this field is automatically set to yes. If you do not want a different edition, toggle it to no otherwise you may be given a different version of the book.
  3. Notes: many requests, especially those with an ISBN or other specific identifying information, are processed automatically in order to expedite your request. In this case, notes may not be seen. For specific requests, email libdelivery@buffalo.edu with your transaction number (TN) after placing the request.
