Last Updated: Dec 12, 2024 1:07 PM
Scope & Contents
This guide documents local best practices for managing archives and manuscript material in the University at Buffalo Libraries Special Collections: The Poetry Collection, Rare & Special Books, the Robert L. Brown History of Medicine Collection, and University Archives. Comments and questions should be directed to Marie Elia.
UB Special Collections uses ArchivesSpace to create and publish Encoded Archival Description (EAD) as well as manage accessions and other collections-related documentation. EAD is an international metadata transmission XML standard that allows us to store, repurpose, and migrate the information and publish it as a finding aid. It is maintained by the Technical Subcommittee for Encoded Archival Standards of the Society of American Archivists (SAA), in partnership with the Library of Congress. Our content adheres to Describing Archives: A Content Standard (DACS), the official content standard of the archival community in the United States, maintained by SAA's TS-DACS.
The format of this guide is adapted from the excellent manual created by Leilani Dawson at University of Hawaiʻi at Mānoa Library.
